Facts about Legal Debt Collector in Singapore 3 – What Can’t Debt Collector Do in Singapore?

Since you know who is debt collector and what they can do in Singapore from my last 2 chapters, you might feel much comfortable when talking about debt collection agency or debt collection company. Although there is no specific law regulating debt collector Singapore, they work under general rules and laws, restricted by the ethics and the regulations.

Even though you are the one does not pay bills on time, you are always having rights to protect yourself. Therefore, it is important to know what they cannot do in the county under strict laws, in order to get rid of harm. It is necessary to know the what they cannot do in Singapore, so that you are able to recognize the actions getting them in trouble with the law.

First, debt collection company cannot send down anyone to threaten you. You are able to call the police if someone angry and burly comes to your home or office asking for the payment with violence or in any improper way. Any assembly of 5 or more people can be convicted if you have evidence that their objective is to commit an offence. They will be arrested even though you are not actually harmed physically.

Second, debt collector Singapore is not allowed to abjure violence against debtors. It is actually against the law to use threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to make debtors pay the debts. So if a debt collector shows his objective to threaten you or punch you, call the police.

Third, vandalism is not allowed in debt collection process. Some of the debt collectors never harm the debtors but they painted on door, ruined stuff in debtors’ office or home. They destroy anything belonging to you except yourself. Actually this is also against the law to destroy properties of others.

Even though there is no specific law or regulation restricting debt collectors’ behaviour, you can still protect ourselves by right, only if you know what they can do and cannot do. In next chapter, I will tell you how to deal with debt collectors.
